Unceded Anishinaabe Algonquin Territories [OTTAWA], 7 April 2025:

Today, Climate Action Network Canada (CAN-Rac) released Made-in-Canada Climate Solutions: 2025 Election Priorities, setting out its calls to action for federal parties this campaign.

Canada’s largest network of groups working on climate and energy issues, CAN-Rac represents more than 180 organizations from coast-to-coast-to-coast, across the environmental, labour, health, faith, and development sectors, as well as First Nations and local and grassroots initiatives.

“This election, Canada is facing more pressing threats than ever—and a clear opportunity to chart our own path to a more resilient future,” said Caroline Brouillette, Executive Director of CAN-Rac. “The next Prime Minister will have to confront not only the U.S. tariffs, but the realities of escalating climate impacts and crumbling multilateralism.

“We can’t afford for our leaders to bow down to U.S.-owned fossil fuel corporations, to replicate Donald Trump’s toxic brand of politics, or to scrap our hard-won climate progress. We’re calling on all parties to show a bold vision to diversify our economy towards reliable, renewable Canadian solutions.

“This isn’t a moment for capitulation; it’s a moment for imagination.”

The calls to action are based on six pillars:

  1. Strengthen Canada’s independence and economy by shifting to clean energy.
  2. Build on Canada’s climate and nature progress.
  3. Make Canadians’ lives safer, healthier, and more affordable.
  4. Center people and communities.
  5. Protect our public institutions and tackle billionaire power and greed.
  6. Champion international cooperation amidst geopolitical chaos.
