As Canadians receive their Canada Carbon Rebate payments this week, in provinces and territories where the federal backstop applies, and as bad-faith attacks on climate policy mount, climate action experts and advocates have issued the following statement in support of carbon pricing:
This week, the Canada Carbon Rebate is landing in bank accounts across the country, providing hundreds of dollars to help households pay for everyday needs, and to get ahead. The Canada Carbon Rebate is concrete proof that we can reduce emissions while inflation is now back to below the Bank of Canada’s target rate of 2% – all while redistributing funds to households most in need.
Carbon pricing plays an important role in driving innovation, decarbonization and the creation of well-paying jobs all across Canada – as we work together to build a strong 21st century economy and combat the climate crisis. While there is still much more to be done, today the Canada Carbon Rebate is delivering real support for Canadians, our economy and our planet.
