Unceded Anishinaabe Algonquin Territories [OTTAWA], August 13, 2025:
Yesterday, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson stated in an interview with Vassy Kapelos that liquefied natural gas (LNG) will play a significant role in shaping Canada’s future as a leading energy superpower.
Statement from Caroline Brouillette, Executive Director of Climate Action Network Canada, on this:
“Minister Hodgson believes there is an international appetite for LNG — but with a global gas glut looming, this could not be further from the truth.
The Minister should be focusing exclusively on the projects with the highest likelihood of success — ones that are based on inexpensive technologies and that will make our country resilient in the long run. Renewable energy, storage, and electricity transmission projects are all no-brainers. They benefit communities, create jobs, will help deliver affordable energy for everyone – and cannot be controlled by erratic heads of state.
Let it be very clear: there is no such thing as all-Canadian LNG. In fact, LNG projects currently proposed in Canada are backed by MAGA-aligned financial interests. Canadians should not be bearing the risks while those menacing our democracy and planet profit.”
