Statement from Caroline Brouillette, Executive Director of Climate Action Network Canada, on the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Hiroshima:

“At a time when rich countries desperately need to show evidence of their so-called climate leadership, G7 leaders have instead riddled their communiqué with loopholes.

“Targets for a massive scale-up of wind and solar are promising. But approving the increase of LNG deliveries and public investments in gas ignores calls from the IPCC and IEA to stop new investments in fossil fuel production and shows a dangerous submission to the gas lobby.

“Climate change is a geopolitical issue, and the G7’s failure to show resolve in disentangling of their economies from fossil fuels will only delay the resolution of the convergent crises we are in.”
