Green New Deal for Canada: Reception on the Hill

On Monday March 9th, 2020 parliamentarians and members of civil society organizations gathered on Parliament Hill for a reception in support of a Green New Deal for Canada. Co-hosted by Climate Action Network Canada, and eleven MPs and Senators, the event was designed to demonstrate the support and enthusiasm for a Green New Deal in Canada, and the need to root climate solutions in social justice, and transformative principles that accelerate us to a carbon-neutral future, in a way that ensures we leave no one behind.
Speaking at the event were members of parliament from each of the 5 parties currently represented in the House of Commons, each of whom took the time to lay out what a Green New Deal, and ambitious climate action means for them. Also among those who addressed the crowd were Ken Bondy of Unifor, Amara Possain of 350.org & OurTime, Lindsey Bacigal of Indigenous Climate Action, and our own Executive Director Catherine Abreu. The cross-sectoral, cross-partisan display of support illustrated for all those in attendance that enthusiasm for transformational change, rooted in a just transition for all is widespread, and strong.
