Response to federal reaction to IPCC report – Climate Action Network Canada
Responding to the Harper governments reaction to today’s IPCC report, Christian Holz, Executive Director of Climate Action Network Canada said the following:
“The Harper government’s response to today’s landmark climate science report is typical of a government that treats climate change as a public relations issue instead of a pollution problem. By putting the interests of polluters before those of its people, the Harper government is setting Canada up for a spectacular failure with regards to its 2020 climate goals. Federal climate progress, touted today by environment minister Aglukkaq is nowhere to be seen and the aggressive push for expansion of tar sands expansion by the federal government will ensure that Canada as a whole will blow past its target despite real progress being made in some provinces. If Minister Aglukkaq is so sure about her government’s climate progress, why is the annual Emissions Trends report that her department usually issues in early August still missing in action?”
