While one of the purposes of the LCFS is to move away from dirty fossil fuels and encourage investment in alternative fuels, the Ambassador of Canada claims that assigning a different carbon intensity to tar sands oil than conventional oil “would run counter to the objective of the LCFS”.

On the one side, California is leading the push to move away from fossil fuels, on the other, Canada is seeking to make sure dirty oil will continue to play a significant role in our economies.
