WHAT THIS IS ABOUT: Environment and Climate Change Canada recently released a technical paper on the federal carbon pricing backstop. The backstop will enforce minimum standards for provincial carbon pricing systems and will be the system applied in provinces that choose not to develop their own approaches. This webinar will unpack the highlights of the technical paper and provide insights into current provincial conversations on carbon pricing. It will give you some tools to provide feedback on the technical paper, which is welcome until June 30, 2017.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Carbon pricing is one of the hallmarks of the Pan-Canadian Framework on Climate Change. Getting it right is important. Part of getting it right is making sure that provincial systems adopt carbon pricing systems that actually reduce emissions. It is critical that CAN-Rac members understand the proposed approach to carbon pricing in this country and push their provinces to adopt systems with integrity and actually reduce emissions in the country.
WHO WILL BE THERE: On the webinar we’ll hear from Erin Flanagan (Pembina Institute), Louise Comeau (University of New Brunswick), Stephen Thomas (Ecology Action Centre), and more.
