VIdeo and Audio clips of the Technical Briefing

On January 12, 2007, Climate Action Network Canada/Réseau action climat Canada (CAN-RAC) held a technical briefing by climate science experts. Topics covered included:

  • the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change* (released on February 2, 2007 - the most comprehensive summary of climate science produced to date)
  • the need for a comprehensive review of the projected economic costs of climate change impacts in Canada, similar to the Stern Review** recently published by the UK government
  • predictions that 2007 could be the warmest year on record.

* The IPCC is mandated to advise the world’s governments on the science, impacts, economics, and technology related to climate change. It is a United Nations body established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It is considered the world’s foremost authority on the issue.

** The Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change is a report on the costs to the world economy of addressing, and of failing to address, climate change. Sir Nicholas Stern is a former Chief Economist of the World Bank and head of the UK government’s economic service.
