December 12, 2009 Climate Change Global Day of Action "The World Wants a Real Deal" Oshawa, ON, Canada
On Dec. 12/09 in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, we had a rally and
candlelight vigil in support of the Climate Change Summit in
Copenhagen. We stood out in the cold and snow for 2 hours at an
intersection near the Oshawa Centre, and marched up and down
Stevenson's road... We
want a Fair and Binding Treaty in Copenhagen. We want Prime Minister
Stephen Harper to get serious about this and stop only listening to
the oil industry, which we can all see that he is doing now. We want
Canada to start to develop envirionmentally friendly energy sources.
Stop listening to the oil, incineration lobbyists and start listening
to the citizens of Canada. -Elisabeth Hart

Salmon Arm, BC, Canada We had an amazing event. It was cold, and I was expecting maybe 30 people. But we had 150 - 200 people, easily - in a town of under 17,000 people! We broke into 6 circles and people took turns reading the words provided by Avaaz. Then we did a silent walk with people holding their candles - very beautiful. Photographers from at least 3 different media were there; it was covered extensively in this week's Salmon Arm Observer and is also on the website http://salmonarm.wordpress.com/ (scroll towards the bottom for write up and pictures). It will also be in this week's Friday AM, another local paper. I have emailed the results of this to Jim Prentice, Stephen Harper and my local MP Colin Mayes. -Sarah Weaver
Peterborough, ON, Canada A Friday night vigil also organized by the Unitarians attracted nearly 100 people as well, in the freezing cold, to sing, speak, light candles against the darkness and express commitment to climate change action. -Ben Wolfe
Candlelight Vigil, Parliament Hill, Ottawa, ON, Canada It started on Parliament Hill at 5pm. There was a big schedule conflict in that the Olympic torch was coming through that evening and the hill was packed. Despite moving the event, 8 people showed up by the flame and held a quiet vigil surrounded by thousands of people.
We then marched down to the main Elgin/Lisgar protest. -Mike Gifford

Kingston, ON, Canada
A silent candlelight - We Want A Real Deal - Vigil was held last night at 5:30p.m. outside Kingston City Hall and, although we had a few technical difficulties getting candles to stay lit with the cold breeze blowing off Lake Ontario, there was no lack of warmth and enthusiasm for a Real Deal in Copenhagen...
Perth, ON, Canada About 35 people gathered at the Town Hall in Perth, Ontario. A speech was read by Maureen Bostock followed by comments from the participants. Ottawa, ON, Canada Here are a few images from the vigil hosted in Ottawa, Ontario by Climate Action Network. It was held at the Human Rights Monument. New Westminster, BC, Canada
We met at 3:50pm local time, at the Village Coffee Lounge on historic 12th Street in New Westminster (which at one time had an electric street car running up and down it, but the tracks are now buried under asphalt). John, the proprietor, treated us with hot chocolate. We lit candles, and then gathered outside for this photo. We then went back inside and talked about climate change and what is - and isn't - being done about it. It was short, and sweet!

In between 8 speakers of different faiths, the Shambhala Buddhists rang a gong and the crowd contemplated current events and our future in absolute silence.

Bowmanville, ON, Canada We chose to do our climate vigil for a Read Deal on the Bowmanville Creek Bridge because there's a lot of traffic coming and going through this area in our town.
