Le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COÉ), l’un des groupes participant à la COP 11, organise à chaque conférence une célébration interreligieuse qui réunit des centaines de personnes de toutes fois et de toutes croyances. À Montréal, elle aura lieu le dimanche 4 décembre à partir de 14h00 à l’Oratoire Saint-Joseph. L’Oratoire a été choisi parce qu’il est un symbole de rassemblements de foules pieuses et a une longue histoire d’ouverture aux autres groupes religieux

Voulant reconnaître les impacts sur les plus vulnérables, la célébration mettra l’accent sur l’écoute des victimes des changements climatiques et du réchauffement de la planète, provenant de pays en développement et de l’Arctique canadien. Il y aura de la musique, des projections sur écrans géants, du théâtre.  Les enfants y joueront un rôle particulier. L’un des moments forts sera la lecture d’une Déclaration commune en plusieurs langues.  

Ce sera tout à la fois une célébration de la Création de Dieu, un temps de repentance pour la destruction de la Terre et une occasion unique pour nous, chez nous, de renouveler notre engagement à prendre soin de la Création en solidarité avec toutes les victimes des changements climatiques partout où elles se trouvent

Nous attendons des communautés locales de croyants et de croyantes qu’elles participent en grand nombre à cette cérémonie, mais aussi qu’elles commencent, ou poursuivent, une réflexion éthique et théologique sur les questions environnementales et sur les gestes de solidarité à poser en faveur des victimes des changements climatiques.

The World Council of Churches (WCC), one of the organizations taking part in COP 11, organizes concurrently with every conference, a multi-faith worship event bringing together hundreds of people from all faiths and religious backgrounds. On December 4, 2005, the WCC will host a massive multi-faith event at St. Joseph’s Oratory starting at 2:00 p.m. The Oratory was chosen because it symbolizes the coming together of worshippers and a long tradition of openness to other faith communities.

Wishing to emphasize the impact of climate change on the most vulnerable, the event will focus on the victims of climate change and global warming in developing countries and the Canadian Arctic. There will be music, large-screen projections and drama. Children will have a special role. One of the highlights of the event will be the presentation of a Common Declaration in several languages.

The event will be both a celebration of Creation, a time to repent for destruction of the Earth and an opportunity for us, here at home, to renew our commitment to safeguarding God’s Creation in solidarity with the victims of climate change all over the world.

We are expecting a massive turnout among local faith community members and hope they will undertake or continue to pursue their ethical and theological reflection on environmental issues and on the actions they can take as a show of solidarity with victims of climate change.
