Description

This Forum will bring together students, educators, community, business, government leaders, and politicians from communities in the Calgary Region to heighten awareness of local sustainability issues, encourage community involvement, and empower students to take action on issues of community sustainability. Youth will learn about the current thinking on climate change, what the COP11/MOP1 is all about, as well as how youth can and are getting involved. With representatives from 180 countries meeting this November in Montreal to discuss the Kyoto Protocol and the next steps after the Kyoto Protocol targets expire in 2012, the issue of climate change will undoubtedly take an international stage. Many environmentalists and youth question how will the Canadian government lead the meeting toward the negotiation of an effective global climate change policy? Will Canada be seen as a leader or a country that has been ineffective in moving the implementation of Kyoto forward?
